It was a normal Tuesday afternoon. I was going about my day like any other scrolling through Twitter when I saw a video posted by Ryan Reynolds. The video said, Deadpool Update and I became extremely intrigued. Little would I know that on a random Tuesday, Ryan Reynolds would break the internet!
About halfway through the video, I am sitting there thinking to myself, is Ryan Reynolds about to cancel this thing? But then he drops an absolute bombshell on comic book and movie fans everywhere.
"But we did have one idea..." says Reynolds. A man walks past in the back of the scene. "Hey Hugh, you want to play Wolverine one more time", says Reynolds. "Yeah, sure, Ryan."
Ladies and gentlemen, Hugh freaking Jackman is back!!!!!
This is quite possibly one of the greatest comic book movie announcements ever made. How do you get fans even more excited for a third installment in the Deadpool franchise? Announce that Hugh Jackman is coming back to play Wolverine one last time.
This is still bonkers to me that this is happening. What world do we now live in where Ryan Reynold's Deadpool and Hugh Jackman's Wolverine get to share the screen in an MCU movie?
There are very few details so far besides this awesome poster we got, and a release date of September 6th, 2024.
This is just incredible. Even when it feels like the Marvel formula is starting to get repetitive and stale, they pull you right back in with an announcement like this. This is why it is so great to be a fan that cares for these projects that they put out.
Just think about how awesome it is going to be watching this and seeing Deadpool and Wolverine slash bodies together in a Rated-R MCU movie. The dialogue is going to be incredible, Reynolds and Jackman are going to have a blast in this one.
Just to make it clear, it seems like this is Jackman's last appearance as Wolverine. Do not expect Hugh to be the Wolverine in the MCU going forward. We will probably see these characters enter the MCU through the Multiverse in some way similar to how they brought Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield back.
This is just some of the most exciting movie news I have ever seen. It will instantly make people buy tickets for this movie and the fact that Ryan Reynolds was able to announce it makes it that much better. Congratulations Kevin Feige and Ryan Reynolds, you have sold us yet again.
