Week Five: Fantasy Football Awards

Benjamin Hudy

Folks, it finally happened. I am finally celebrating a win in fantasy football. It has taken me long four weeks to get to this point, but it finally happened.

I have never been happier to give out fantasy football awards because they will not be depressing anymore. I have been giving these awards to players that have screwed me for the past four weeks. Now, I get to celebrate a win til Thursday night football.

A solid week of football, nothing too crazy happened but we have to give out these awards.

King in the Castle - This one felt like it took too long to happen, but we all knew he was bound to be the king in the castle. Josh Allen was practicing for the Chiefs. He was tossing dimes to Gabe Davis and Stefon Diggs and just made the Steelers look silly. So good to the point that Case Keenum came into the game and he was still the highest-scoring fantasy player.

He found Gabe Davis for two 40+ yard touchdowns and still managed to get his best buddy Diggs involved. It is just too easy for Allen. Watching him play is so much damn fun.

Kirk Cousins of the Week - The Kirk Cousins of the week will be going to two players that deserve it just as equally. They deserve it for making us sit through an atrocious game that made the entire world waste their Thursday night. Matt Ryan and Russell Wilson you deserve this. They look so bad this year it is unreal. This was the week for them to turn their season around and they looked worse than they did all season. They choked in primetime so badly.

Most people probably do not have Ryan in fantasy, but I know damn well people are still starting Russell Wilson. I guarantee you Russell Wilson is losing a lot of people fantasy games including friends of mine that I know have him. He has been horrible. Makes it so hard to watch, just like it is hard to watch Kirk Cousins.

Jameis Winston of the Week - Not a lot of interceptions were thrown this week, so for a second I considered giving this award to no one. Then I remembered just how bad Russell Wilsons' interceptions were on Thursday Night Football and I had to give it to him.

Russell Willson is currently the leader for most awards given out this year, and none of them have been positive. He had two awful interceptions on the Broncos side of the field. I wish I could justify his play even a little bit, but he has just been that bad. There might be a chance the Jamies or Cousins award gets changed to the Russell Wilson Award.

Missing: If Found Please Call - I have been trying to avoid giving this award to this player the last two weeks because he was battling injuries to begin the year, but now that he is fully back-healthy, he deserves this. What are the 49ers doing with George Kittle?

A lot of people watch Niners games and have seen that the Niners love to have Kittle block, but I saw a wild stat the other day that will justify that. Kittle is currently running routes at the highest rate of his career, yet Jimmy is just not targeting him.

Through three weeks of playing, Kittle only has 11 total receptions. He was drafted by many as the tight end three or four going into this season. His season feels lost right now and he needs to start picking up before he is considered one of the biggest fantasy busts of the 2022 season.

Honorary Chris Collinsworth: “Now Here’s A Guy” - Finally, we got the Breece Hall breakout game we have been waiting for. Hall managed to run all over the Dolphins defense, having 197 total scrimmage yards and a rushing touchdown.

He finally came into the form that the Jets drafted him in the second round for. While the Jets still use Michael Carter, hopefully, this was the breakout game that Breece Hall needed. I bet this game made Hall fantasy owners extremely happy.

Wait, That's It? - I bet you it was still a nightmare if you played Travis Kelce on Monday night football, but if you had a super big league going into the game, I bet you were shocked that he only put up that many points. Travis Kelce managed to catch four touchdowns on Monday Night Football. Yet, he only managed to have 25 total receiving yards.

Travis Kelce's stat line might be one of the all-time wild stat lines I have ever seen. You would think a guy torching a defense for 4 touchdowns would have at least 100 receiving yards. Mahomes was just finding his main man when they needed it most and that is all that really mattered when it came to them winning the game. Congrats to the guy that had the Kelce 4+ touchdown betting ticket!

Elite - Guess who's back? Taysom Hill is back. Hill, a man that can do it all, was torching the Seahawks defense on Sunday scoring 3 RUSHING TOUCHDOWNS and a passing touchdown. The best part about it, you can play this man in your tight end spot.

I do not think a lot of people knew what was going to happen with Taysom going into this year since Sean Payton is out but he has been a valid option at tight end so far this year. Obviously, it is mostly boom or bust with him, but when he booms he BOOMS.

You Just Got Patrio'd - That one does not work as well, but I do not care. Even though these are both pretty bad teams, the Lions have been one of the best fantasy teams to have all year long. They have about 6-7 viable fantasy options that have been good all year long. They all put up stinkers verse the Patriots.

Goff, Hockeson, St. Brown and Williams all put up stinkers compared to what they have been doing all year long. The Patriots shut down that electric offense, and nor did the Lions defense show up as always.

“They Wrote Me Off, I Didn’t Write Back Though” - I am giving Geno another word because he is now quarterback number six in fantasy. What world are we living in? Yes, it is still early in the season, I completely understand that, but oh my gosh we are living in his renaissance. Geno just has continued to put up fantasy numbers, week by week and he now might be worth starting.
