Week Two: Fantasy Football Awards

Benjamin Hudy

Here we go. Welcome to the deepest and analytically driven fantasy football awards that have ever been given out.

The plan was to start this week one, but time got in my way and I had to push it back til week two.

These awards are ever so changing. A lot of them will stay consistent while some might only appear for one week.

So here we go, your fantasy award winners for week two of the NFL season are:

King in the Castle- This award will be given to the MVP for his respective week of fantasy football. Pretty easy right? For a second there, this award was going to Lamar Jackson, but the king in the castle this week is Tua Tagovailoa. How in the hell? What Tua did this week was insane. Mike McDaniels is legitimately playing Madden out there.

The best part about Tua this week was the inverted video of him throwing right-handed. He looks so ugly throwing lefty but then you see that video and think to yourself for a second. If you started Tua this week you probably won. He is the King in the Castle.

Kirk Cousins of the Week- This award will go to the player that plays the most like Kirk Cousins. Mediocre play but everyone thinks he looked fine or a quarterback that just straight-up chokes in prime time. This week the award goes to… KIRK COUSINS.

What a start to the Kirk Cousins of the Week. What in the hell was he doing out there? I do not know what psychedelic Aaron Rodgers gave Kirk last week, but my god. I think Cousins targeted Darius Slay more than Justin Jefferson. It was a god-awful performance.

I promise you Cousins will not win this award every time, but he deserves it this week.

Jameis Winston of the Week- This award will go to whoever has the most interceptions for the week, or whoever can put up the perfect stat line of an even touchdown to interception ratio. It also must be at least 2 of each though. Kirk Cousins and Matt Ryan were contenders for the awards with their amazing three-interception performances. But this week, the award is being shared between fellow draft mates Marcus Mariota and our king, Jameis Winston.

Marcus Mariota had a beautiful two-touchdown, two-interception performance. Jameis is smiling out there somewhere. In the first week of the awards you have to give it to Jameis Winston as well for his three picks. You know the NFL is back when Jameis is out there throwing picks.

Missing: If Found Please Call- Someone please find Kyle Pitts. What is going on? I do not know if it is the quarterback change or what. He has been without a doubt the biggest fantasy bust thus far. His ADP was about the 3rd round and I bet everyone that took him is freaking out at the moment. Pitts has a miraculous 10 targets for 4 receptions and 38 yards through 2 weeks. Please get him going, I want Kyle Pitts to be successful.

Honorary Aaron Rodgers: I Hate My Family Award- This will not be a weekly award but it deserves to be awarded this week. All the hype this week for fantasy and player props was that Davantae Adams entire family was going to see him play for the first time. Everyone was hammering the props. I have him in fantasy so I knew he was going to go crazy. Welp, it was actually the complete opposite of that. He had two receptions on the first drive, one for a touchdown, and that was it. 10 fantasy points. I do not know if it is Adams that hates his family or maybe Dereck Carr hates Adams family because he just went completely away from him the rest of the game.

You Just Got Jaguar’d- This award will always go to whoever puts up the biggest stinker against the worst team. The Jacksonville Jaguars destroyed the Colts this weekend. Jonathan Taylor and Matt Ryan got Jaguar’d. It does not help that the offense as a whole could not stay on the field, but the best running back in football put up 63 total yards against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Matt Ryan also had an all-time stinker, turning the ball over four times. The seat that Frank Reich sits on gets significantly hotter. The Colts just cannot win in Jacksonville.

Elite- Joe Flacco? Joe Flacco? Elite. Flacco is back, baby. If you started Joe Flacco this week, you are an elite fantasy manager. Joe Flacco helped lead the Jets to an improbable comeback against the Browns, throwing for 4 touchdowns and 307 passing yards. Mr. Elite Flacco currently has the THIRD most passing yards in the league. Now I know it is early, but who would have ever projected that? Joe stays elite.

Honorary Chris Collinsworth: “Now Here's A Guy”- Now here's a guy to look out for, Garrett Wilson. Wilson had his breakout game catching 8 passes for 102 yards and two touchdowns. The best part about it is that there is a video of him hitting the O-H-I-O (Ohio State Alum) after one of his touchdowns and then taunting a little kid in the stands. Definitely a guy. Claim him in your fantasy league if he isn’t already on a roster.

A Jumbled Group Of Wide Receivers- There were so many good performances this week but all four of these guys deserve recognition for what they did. Stefon Diggs, Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle and Amon-Ra St. Brown all had elite performances. If you have at least one of these guys, you probably won this week in fantasy. Unless you are me…

So there you have it the fantasy football awards for week two. I plan on doing this every week and having ultimate winners of awards by the end of the season.

Fantasy football tends to consume my life from September to December so doing something like this makes it even more fun for me.

If you have any award suggestions drop them in the comments and I might use them for an upcoming week.

Hopefully week three is more of the same and provide even more incredible performances. I especially hope it keeps up with performances that can get absolutely meme'd. Agree to disagree, these were the winner of the week two fantasy football awards.
